Hello,

I am trying to install `gnatformat` via `alire`, but I keep running out of memory. I have 8 GB, so aprox 6 GB usable by the user. I think it has to do with `alire` launching too many builds at the same time.

Best regards,

The problem is almost certainly libadalang, it contains some very big files.

Do you have any idea on how to could I get the binary then?

Easiest way would be to setup a GitHub actions build. I have static build on a recent libadalang here though which might be enough if you want to work out how to point Alire at it: [Release Libadalang static 26.0.1001 · Prunt3D/prunt\_alire\_index · GitHub](https://github.com/Prunt3D/prunt_alire_index/releases/tag/libadalang-static-26.0.1001)

There’s also a chance that building with a single thread will help, use `alr build -- -j1` or similar.

I think I will try this first:

> **[Release gnat-16.1.0-1 · alire-project/GNAT-FSF-builds](https://github.com/alire-project/GNAT-FSF-builds/releases/tag/gnat-16.1.0-1)**
>
> gnat-16.1.0-1
> The macOS builds in this release are supported on macOS 15 and macOS 26. Compiling Ada code on previous macOS versions should work, but you may experience issues when building C or C+...

I don’t think gnatformat is built there, although maybe it should be.

That is true! I misread the post and believed it was availiable inside it. My bad. I will look into your approach.

I think what you’re searching for is actually here [Release gnatformat-26.0-1 · alire-project/GNAT-FSF-builds · GitHub](https://github.com/alire-project/GNAT-FSF-builds/releases/tag/gnatformat-26.0-1)

I believe most “gnat” tools can now be installed when using the `_bin` packages, see [Binary releases of GNAT tools](https://forum.ada-lang.io/t/binary-releases-of-gnat-tools/4398)

I guess my times of OpenBSD and voidlinux-musl are over.

Oh, I see the issue… I really would like to expand Alire/binary support to musl and \*BSDs… There are/were some people working on it… Sadly with the little resources that we have, we have to focus on larger market share systems and platforms. Maybe in the future we will have the resources needed 🙂

No worries, it was more of a fact statement than anything else. I have actually switched to x86\_64-glibc-voidlinux in my two work machines. 🙂

I don’t know what I did before, since I believed there was no `bin` for gnatformat, even though it can be clearly seen there and I have just installed it. 🥲

Thanks to everyone for the answers,
Zen
