First real application after having digested books

Hi,

I’ve learnt the language in books so far, multiple, so I can say I know the basics fairly well, and a bit of all annexes. It took me some time, but now that it’s done, I feel a bit aimless… what to do now, as a Ada hobbyist ? I want to make a desktop application I will use myself, beautiful and correct from the ground up, and making full use of the language’s capabilities (Spark, annexes). Something I could use myself and see to completion in a reasonable time frame if ever, unlike most ambition Ada projects (OS, compilers…).

I’ve always wanted to make my own window manager for X, since I’ve never been satisfied by anything, and many people developed one as a means to learn a language.

Do you think this is realistic ? Do you have any advice as to the libraries or programs (in C, I assume) I should study ? Or should I go for something else, an already existing project that might satisfy my criteria ?

Maybe you could port GPUI to Ada. Either a shim or complete rewrite: https://gpui.rs/
Close to the window manager topic but not the same.
