I don’t really see much point in posting the same thing every six months.
Agree with @JeremyGrosser on the timeline.
However, in general, one of the biggest problems with the Ada ecosystem right now is “discoverability.” For example, I had no idea VSS included command line parsing until a few days ago.
Just adding my two cents to the discussion.
Just as @pyj is saying, Ada has an issue with discoverability and what features are available where… I think it is good is library creators do advertise their packages and what they can do.
Now, at what pacing and how detailed the description should be… I am unsure. I think new releases should be announced with a summary of the improvements and changes when they happen.
Best regards,
Fer
IMHO, as long as the forum is not swamped with such announcements, which it isn’t, the added discoverability for new forum participants outweighs the overhead of skipping the topic for those who already know about it.
Just my 0.02€…
I don’t mind this kind of post either, but this is what I would do to improve discoverability of your/an Ada project:
We have a basic code search on ada-lang, but I wish we had an Ada equivalent of hoogle.
There are clearly people on here who were not around six months ago. This is a good thing, and I think them learning about the components is also a good thing.
I’m pro reminders myself. I don’t mind it and even if I don’t end up using a particular library, I definitely like knowing about everyone’s stuff.
One suggestion is to tag it for the Releases
category. Even though it isn’t technically a release, it is for the same purpose (discoverability) and one could always put in the latest patch notes with the reminder.
